Genes students worked with in developing the project are listed below. In the first year, we chose LHCA6, which encodes a member of the CAB gene family, because it is a very abundant transcript that is expressed differentially (highly expressed in leaves, not expressed in roots). In the subsequent year, we used PIRL9, a gene our research laboratory works on that encodes a novel plant intracellular ras-group-related LRR (PIRL) protein (Forsthoefel et al, 2005).
