Introduction to Environmental Studies

ENVS-120

Welcome to Geology 410A: Introduction to Environmental Studies!

Bader, Fall 2009

Welcome to Introduction to Environmental Studies! Environmental studies encompasses an incredibly diverse patchwork of fields, tied together by a common focus on identifying and solving environmental problems. Because of this diversity, interdisciplinarity is a critical component of environmental studies, because an environmental issue like, e.g. energy consumption is far too big, far-reaching, and complex to be understood by a single type of specialist. Indeed, many of you will go on to study in a broad array of disciplines. Consequently, in this class we will explore environmental problems through the eyes of scientists, policy makers, writers, and economists. Course topics will include biodiversity and endangered species, land use, production and consumption, agriculture, energy, and climate change.
