This course is a brief history of Planet Earth, all encapsulated in one semester. We will develop a "toolbox" of geologic skills that will enable you to reconstruct past geologic environments and events. Then we will go on a journey through geologic time, beginning with the origins of our solar system and finishing with Quaternary history, the most recent ice ages, and the evolution of humans. Our topics will include the formation and movement of the continents, the history of North America, and the origins and history of life.
