Course description: The course will begin with a rigorous study of systems of linear equations and matrix manipulations. We will continue with a thourough study of vector spaces and linear transformations. The course will have a fair number of applications, but will be very heavy on theory as well. Homework: Homework will be posted here . Homework will be assigned daily and collected weekly. So much of learning anything in mathematics is dependent on reading and working through examples. Therefore, it is recommended that you attempt all problems assigned, not just those that will be collected. I try and devote the first few minutes of each class period to answering specific questions, so don't be afraid to try many many problems.
Tests: This class will have biweekly quizzes, as well as a midterm and a final. As some of the problems will take more time than what you may be used to, there will frequently be inclass and takehome components to the quizzes and exams. The midterm will take place during the week (and weekend) after Fall Break. The final, as scheduled by the registar's office, is Thursday, December 13, from 911 AM. Please make your travel plans accordingly!!
