The conference will be held at the Nashville Convention Center, 601 Commerce Street, Nashville, TN. The convention center is immediately adjacent to the Renaissance Nashville Hotel, which is the official conference hotel. A block of rooms and a special convention rate has been negotiated for conference attendees.
The conference begins on Wednesday, February 11th with the Physics Diversity Summit and a workshop and tour of Oak Ridge National Lab. The official opening event is the reception on Wednesday evening at the convention center.
ORNL invites faculty, research associates and students interested in potential research collaborations or future employment to a research workshop and facilities tours at the lab on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. A bus will leave from Nashville going to Oak Ridge at 6am on Wednesday. Therefore, a Tuesday evening arrival in Nashville is required.
The tours at ORNL will include the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), the Center for Nanophase Material Sciences. Visits to other ORNL facilities can be arranged per participant interests. Information about ONRL facilities and research areas is available lab website.
Lunch will be provided by ORNL. After a full day at the lab, the bus will return to Nashville in time for participants to attend the conference's opening reception.
Capacity is limited. Registration by January 10, 2009 is required.
Full travel support is available for undergraduate and graduate students. Travel support for students is automatically considered upon registration.
Limited support is available for postdoctoral researchers and faculty. NSBP or NSHP membership is NOT required to receive travel support to attend the conference.
Travel support for scientists at non-US institutions to attend our conference is generally NOT available.
Since the conference is an open scientific event, announcements at this website and other places, e.g., Physics Today, in effect invites interested persons to attend. Please consult theUS State Department for specific visa requirements.
If you submit and abstract that is accepted for the meeting we can issue a letter of invitation if required. Please send your request to NSBP via the contact box below.
Please include your name, full contact information, as well as abstract name and number. Also please include a passport number, date of birth and the gender of the person requesting the invitation letter.
All letters of invitation will be sent by mail or by fax unless a Federal Express account number or credit card number with expiration date is provided on the original request. Please allow four weeks for processing requests. Though we are interested in your experience with US government representatives, NSBP is NOT able to contact U.S. Embassies or Consulates to support your application.

NSBP and NSHP membership is NOT required to present a paper or poster at the conference. Graduate and undergraduate students may present a poster or a talk, but we do ask for student authors to have a faculty co-author.

We invite private businesses, government agencies, research organizations, faculty search committees, summer REU and graduate student recruiters to participate in the career fair. The fair begins on the evening of Wednesday, February 11 at the opening reception and ends on the afternoon of Friday, February 14.
Display set-up at the Nashville Convention Center begins at 2:00pm. All recruiters and exhibitors are invited to participate in the Physics Diversity Summit which begins at 10:00am.
All the coffee breaks will be in the exhbit hall, thus providing you with maximum exposure to and continuous interaction with all the conference participants.
