Zimbabwe and Tanzania: total solar eclipse and Africa's highest mountain, 17 June 2001 to 8 July 2001

Pictures from the trip

In the middle of the day on 21 June 2001, it will be dark for four minutes across a band of southern Africa. This rare event and Mana Pools on the Zambezi River will be the highlights in Zimbabwe. Volcanoes will be the main focus in Tanzania, starting with the great Ngorongoro caldera and recently active Oldoinyo Lengai and ending with an ascent of 19,340-foot Mount Kilimanjaro. We will also visit the East Africa Rift Valley, and, of course, spend considerable time observing Africa's spectacular wildlife.
