Editorial Essays
1. Essay due January 25th: Webster's Online dictionary
defines an "editorial" as "a newspaper or magazine article that gives the
opinions of the editors or publishers; also : an expression of opinion
that resembles such an article." In a 2-3 page "editorial essay,"
present your opinion on the following question relevant to this course:
Do you think that the meaning of a literary text resides in the writer's
intention, in the text itself, in the reader's response to the text, or
in some combination of the three? Make sure to provide examples supporting
your opinion. This essay will not be graded.
2. Essay due May 11th: Write another 2-3 page essay on the
same question posed in #1 above, considering the evidence provided by your
experience in "African New World Shakespeare." This essay will be
graded.
