Your Turn: What quanity of ethylene glycol,

C2H4(OH)2, must be added to 100. g of water to raise the

boiling point 1.0 oC?

Dt = m K

m = 1.0 oC/(0.512 oC/m) = 2.0 m

mol of glycol needed = molality x (kg of solution)

(2.0 mol/kg)(0.100 kg) = 0.20 mol

g glycol = (0.20 mol) (62.07 g/mol) = 12 g gylcol
