Functions of the Krebs Cycle
|
- To provide electron carriers which will donate electrons to the Electron Transport Chain ETC
- NADH
- FADH2
- Production of biosynthetic intermediates
|
Enzyme Complexes
- Pyruvic dehydrogenase complex: gateway into Krebs
- removes a carboxyl group from pyruvate
- regenerates NADH
- adds a carboxy ethyl group (pyruvate) to Acetyl CoA
- Succinate dehydrogenase complex
- Inner mitochondrial membrane protein
- Functions in both Krebs and in the ETC
|
- GTP is the only high energy biproduct of the Krebs cycle: the other high energy molecules (ATP)
are formed in a signl transduction pathway; oxidative phosphorylation
