Metabolism

Cytochrome C ATP Synthase Acetyl CoA H+ gradient across the Mitochondria

Krebs Cycle

Functions of the Krebs Cycle

  1. To provide electron carriers which will donate electrons to the Electron Transport Chain ETC
    1. NADH
    2. FADH2
  2. Production of biosynthetic intermediates

Enzyme Complexes

  1. Pyruvic dehydrogenase complex: gateway into Krebs
    1. removes a carboxyl group from pyruvate
    2. regenerates NADH
    3. adds a carboxy ethyl group (pyruvate) to Acetyl CoA
  2. Succinate dehydrogenase complex
    1. Inner mitochondrial membrane protein
    2. Functions in both Krebs and in the ETC

  1. GTP is the only high energy biproduct of the Krebs cycle: the other high energy molecules (ATP) are formed in a signl transduction pathway; oxidative phosphorylation
