Some Grammar Advice

I've chosen not to talk about much "grammar" here. If you need more, come see me. (The verdict is still out on how much "grammar" a writing student needs to know. I suspect such students don't need to know a whole lot. How many of us know the rules for "shall" and "will"? How many of us know our English subjunctives? How many of us know the rules for using "the" and "a"? How many of us know the meanings of our modal perfects? Do we write worse because we don't know the answers to those questions?)
