SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES:
Theatre Production

The Whitman Faculty Handbook recognizes, "noteworthy performances or exhibitions," as scholarly or creative work deemed to be professionally appropriate to each candidate's field. The USITT recommendations for promotion and tenure guidelines, (Appendix A), identifies the artistic and technical process which culminates in the public performance as the normal mode of professional endeavor for theatrical designers.

My field of expertise is theatre and those technologies and methodologies associated with the design of scenery and lighting for the theatre. The process of designing is one of my normal modes of research and the production of theatre is one of my normal modes of publication. I offer my record of production design at Whitman as evidence of professional activity. Representative examples of production designs can be viewed at: http://people.whitman.edu/~hinest/portfolio/index/ Click here to view portfolio.
