STUDENT RESEARCH

Both undergraduate and graduate students have worked with me on petrology, geochemistry and archaeometry studies in the Aleutian Islands, Kerguelen Archipelago, Washington, and Kansas. I also mentor students on their Keck research projects. Some of the techniques that students use to acquire elemental and isotopic data include X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Neutron Activation (NA), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS), and Electron Microscopy. Here at Whitman we have an Innov-X portable XRF spectrometer and an Agilent ICP-MS, both of which were acquired in 2007. We also have older equipment that includes two research grade optical microscopes, a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and an X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD).
