Stay on this road as it crosses the Columbia at Vernita Bridge and then heads upstream past Desert Air and Mattawa. At the stop sign, turn left on Hwy. 26. Stay on Hwy. 28 to Wenatchee wher you turn left (westbound) toward Leavenworth and Stevens pass on Hwy. 2. After passing through Cashmere, look for the entrnace to the stae park on the right.
How long of a drive is it? 4 hours
What's there?: Big slabs of gritty sandstone featuring run-out bolted routes and a few decent cracks
Land Ownership: Washington State Parks (click for detailed info)
Pros: Scenic spires. Often warm and sunny in the spring and fall. A few nice routes. Some multi-pitch routes.
Cons: The rock is quite friable. It can be crowded. You have to drive past Frenchman Coulee (which has better climbing and similar or better weather) to get there.
Comments: I'd keep driving and head up Icicle Creek, weather permitting. If you get stormed out of the mountains, you can often find good weather here and partially salvage your trip.
