Name of area:Salmon river crags
Where:East of Riggins, ID
How do I get there from Walla Walla?:Take Hwy. 12 towards Lewiston. Stay on Hwy. 12 past Lewiston and turn south on Hwy. 95 at Spalding. Head south on Hwy. 95 to Riggins. At Riggins, turn east up the Salmon River. The crags are located mostly on the north side of the river about 10 mile above Riggins after you cross the bridge near Riggins hot springs
How long of a drive is it? 4-4.5 hours
What's there?:Big butresses of granite and granitic gneiss on the canyon walls above the Salmon River. There are some obvious nice cracks and there has been some sport route development. John Crock at Hyperspud Mountain Sports in Moscow may have an informal guide.
Land Ownership: Nez Perce National Forest
Pros:Good quality rock, nice scenery, white sand beaches on river below crags.
Cons: No guidebook, long drive.
Comments:If you're in the Riggins area for a float trip or some other mundane activity, take your gear along and get a real adrenaline rush!
